After Bournemouth emphatically ended their unbeaten run last weekend, Newcastle United make the long trip down to Southampton in a bid to return to winning ways.

The Magpies were stunned by Andoni Iraola's Cherries in the early kick-off as Justin Kluivert netted a hat-trick in a 4-1 away win. Before that, Eddie Howe's men had won eight straight in all competitions.

Despite falling to sixth in the Premier League table, Newcastle are well in the mix to claim a top-four spot. They've also got a great opportunity to dash their demons from last Saturday against the league's bottom outfit.

Southampton remain rooted at the foot of the table and are yet to claim a league triumph under Ivan Juric. The Saints have arguably been more competitive under the journeyman Serie A coach, but their six-point haul through 22 games means they require a miracle to remain in the Premier League.

Here is 90min's guide to Southampton vs Newcastle.

Tyler Dibling is set to miss out with an ankle injury / Visionhaus/GettyImages

Tyler Dibling has been one of very few shining lights for Southampton this season, but he won't be in action this weekend due to an ankle injury.

Kamaldeen Sulemana, who impressed at Old Trafford less than ten days ago, has also been ruled out with a hamstring issue.

Aaron Ramsdale is another fresh concern with Juric suggesting his number one has injured his torso, but there's hope the former Arsenal goalkeeper will be fit to start on Saturday.

Ross Stewart, Gavin Bazunu and Jack Stephens are slated for February returns.

Martin Dubravka has enjoyed a prolonged run in the team / Stu Forster/GettyImages

It seems as if Martin Dubravka will remain at Newcastle this month, and the reserve goalkeeper is poised for another start between the sticks as Nick Pope continues to nurse a knee injury.

Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles remain out, while Harvey Barnes is a relatively new addition to the injury list.

The Magpies showed signs of fatigue against a high-octane Bournemouth side last weekend, so it'll be interesting to see if Howe opts for any changes to what's been a pretty consistent starting XI over the past month.

Newcastle vs Southampton score prediction

Southampton's performances under Juric haven't been so dire, with a commonsensical approach allowing the Saints to be more competitive. In their previous two outings, they came close to securing a result at Manchester United before fighting back to almost rescue a point at Nottingham Forest.

The players haven't given up quite yet, and Newcastle, off the back of a convincing defeat, must be wary. They can't coast through Saturday's game.

However, the Saints simply don't know how to pick up points. They may compete fiercely against the visitors here, but Newcastle, having finally enjoyed a week off, should be able to dust off the cobwebs and win away from home.
