We’re now so deep into this extra-long international break that we’re starting to forget what Premier League matches are actually like. The transfer rumours are getting sillier too.
TBR Football are today claiming that Enzo Fernandez is a major target for Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, and has had his intermediaries speaking to the two Spanish giants.
The 24 year old has had some great flashes since joining Chelsea in January 2023, but in a team that’s struggled to be consistent he too has had many ups and downs in his 97 appearances for the club so far.
Fans can all see his quality, but there’s no doubt he’s yet to show the consistency one would hope for from a £105m player already in his prime.
The same piece says Chelsea have no plans to sell him and that there have been no discussions about leaving. Agents talking to agents is something very different to a move being proposed.

We do think it’s very likely that Enzo ends up in Madrid one day. The Argentine connection at Atletico Madrid is super strong, with Diego Simeone in place and a bunch of national team players currently with the Rojiblancos.
As for Real, they have a strong South American connection too, and Enzo’s game would suit them so nicely. You can just imagine him spraying the ball around midfield in wide open games in La Liga.
But it’s not just a question of fit, or even of what Enzo wants. It’s all about practicality. And at the moment there’s no way Chelsea could or would accept anything lower than what they paid, and there’s no way either club will offer anything close to that.
In 3 or 4 years? Things could be different. But for now, he’s a centrepiece this team is being built around.
