Spurs linked to Everton defender

You know the score by now. Though transfer rumours always exist between windows, it definitely increases during the international break. As a result of there being very little to talk about from a club point of view, transfer rumours take priority.
Spurs are no different to that. Just this break alone, they have been linked with a move for Joao Gomes from Wolves, whilst Rodrigo Bentancur has been linked with a move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
The latest player to be linked with a move to North London is Everton central defender Jarrad Branthwaite. According to Sky Sports News, Spurs have been tracking the 22-year old this season, with the player said to be considering his future on Merseyside.
Over the last couple of years, Everton have been pretty turgid going forward - albeit better under David Moyes, as Spurs know all too well - with their defensive backbone of Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski, and Branthwaite a big part in what has been keeping them in the Premier League during this period.
If you have not seen enough of the defender, he is very much like Micky van de Ven profile wise. He is quick, strong, good on the ball, all whilst being very tall, even a bit taller than van de Ven. He is not as quick as the Dutch defender (no shame in that, he is still quick), but is a bit better on the ball.
So, some of you will be thinking "well we have van de Ven, so what is the need for Branthwaite?" As good as he is, can his availability, or lack there of, be trusted? Not for large periods of the season, unfortunately.
That said, there is every chance that it is a club issue. This international break - and not for the first time - Spurs defender Cristian Romero has thrown shade at the club's medical department, with reports suggesting that he is very upset with how his injuries have been dealt with by the club.
So, in theory, if Branthwaite comes to Spurs, and nothing changes in regards to the medical team, then he could well end up being injury prone too. It is a hard one to juggle. What is certain, though, is that the Everton defender is an extremely good player, who could easily play for some top sides. So imagine how lucky a side like Spurs would be to have him.
