Sunderland defenders Trai Hume and Dennis Cirkin have both been linked with a move to Wolves this summer ahead of their play-off clash with Coventry City.

According to Molineux News, the Premier League side are weighing up a double raid of the Black Cats in the upcoming transfer market.

The outcome of Sunderland’s play-off campaign could play a key role in whether the two players remain at the Stadium of Light.

Hume has made 44 appearances in the league so far this season, contributing three goals and six assists, while Cirkin has registered three and two from 36 games.

When asked about the possibility of Cirkin and Hume leaving, FLW’s Sunderland fan pundit Jack Austwicke claimed it is a concern given their importance to the side.

He’s also suggested the timing isn’t great due to the fact their semi-final clash with Coventry City takes place later this week.

“I mean there’s never a great time for rumours, but it’s just as bad when the play-offs are on the horizon,” Austwicke told Football League World.

“I’ll be honest, I hadn’t actually seen these rumours, but I think that would be a good move for them.

“I think Wolves have under-achieved this season.

“They’ve got the manager Vitor Pereira in.

"If they keep hold of the likes of [Matheus] Cunha, they’ll be a really strong team, and they could push the top 10 next season.

“And if we don’t go up, we probably are going to get raided.

“It’s just the way it works, sadly, and we’re going to have to suffer that.

“Obviously it would be gutting, very concerning because they’re two very good players.

“There were links with Cirkin going back to Tottenham, so it almost feels like a do or die, we have to go up, really, to have any chance of keeping these players.”

Sunderland finished fourth in the Championship table, earning 76 points from 46 games.

Sunderland at risk of being raided this summer

If Sunderland don’t go up, then it’s easy to imagine a scenario in which Régis Le Bris’ side is completely raided in the transfer market.

Hume and Cirkin could just be the beginning, with the likes of Jobe Bellingham, Wilson Isidor, Anthony Patterson and Chris Rigg all also potential players that could attract a lot of interest.

That adds extra importance on these upcoming games with Coventry for the club, as promotion could stave off this interest.

Hume and Cirkin have both performed quite well this year, and a move to the Premier League in the summer would be a fine reward, but Sunderland will likely hold out for significant fees if they are sold, which would be some consolation at least.
