Interim manager Alan Sheehan has done an excellent job at Swansea City and there are now discussions over him getting the job permanently.
It has been reported that interim manager Alan Sheehan is edging closer towards becoming the permanent head coach of Swansea City, with talks now taking place with regards to his full-time appointment.
Since the sacking of Luke Williams in February, former Notts County and Luton Town defender Sheehan has done an excellent job in charge of the Jack Army as they push well clear of danger in the Championship and into the middle-of-the-table.
With two games of the 2024/25 campaign to go and Swansea looking for a top-half finish this season, it has been reported by the BBC that the club are optimistic a deal will be reached before the final day of the season next week.
Sheehan was initially put in charge of five matches following Williams’ departure but he agreed with the club in March to stay in the hot-seat for the remainder of the season.
Before the sacking of Williams, Swansea had been dragged into the extremely congested and competitive relegation battle in the Championship but ever since Sheehan’s first game in charge, a 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at the Swansea.com Stadium, they have not looked back.
In the 11 matches that Sheehan has been in charge for, Swansea have picked up seven victories, with just two draws and two defeats as they seek to put right what had gone wrong under Williams.
On Easter Monday, they defeated a similarly in-form Queens Park Rangers side by two goals to one at Loftus Road to make it five successive victories since a 2-2 draw with now automatically promoted Leeds United at Elland Road just after the March international break.
In those 11 games, only Burnley, who have won nine and drawn two, have collected more points in the Championship than Swansea with Swans having picked up a point more than Leeds as well as Millwall but the latter have even played a game more, too.
Swansea will seek to cement themselves in the top-half of the second-tier in their final two matches as they travel to The Den to face Millwall this weekend before finishing up at home to relegation-battling Oxford United.
A few weeks ago it was confirmed that 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric, still playing at Real Madrid, has become an investor and co-owner of the 2013 League Cup winners.
It is a bizarre piece of news that would only seem to be quite exciting, or at the very least intriguing, for the prospects of Swansea moving forward as they seek a return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2018.
Their recruitment in recent seasons has seen them broaden their horizons to an international focus with Mykola Kukharevych and Nathan Tjoe-A-On joining from Troyes and Excelsior respectively in the summer of 2023 and then five permanent additions coming from abroad during the 2024/25 campaign.
If Swansea are able to continue to pick up some gems, such as Goncalo Franco and Zan Vipotnik, albeit there is reported interest in the latter this summer, as well as maintain the form that they have shown in the last couple of months then they will believe they can mount and sustain a serious promotion push next season.
Former Ireland under-21 international Sheehan has done an excellent interim job in charge of the Welsh club this season, and it now appears to be the case that he will be granted the opportunity to try and push them on further into the 2025/26 season.
