Manchester United are closing in on their first arrival of the January transfer window.
As fans expected, it’s been a frustratingly quiet month up to this stage, with INEOS unwilling to splash the cash to bolster the disjointed side, who currently rank 12th-placed in the Premier League table after 23 matches.
Alas, United are on to record their worst-ever league finish – though fingers won’t be pointed at Ruben Amorim. The squad’s performances have left a lot to be desired on plenty of occasions, but he can’t fully be evaluated until he’s had a proper run of fixtures with his desired signings at his disposal.
He may be granted one in the remaining days, however, as the club are hot in pursuit of young full-back Patrick Dorgu of Lecce.

Last week, United had a £22 million proposal rejected by the Serie A club, as they plan to hold out for their £33m valuation to be met.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Reds will return with an improved offer to test Lecce’s resolve in the coming days, having already ‘agreed terms’ with the 20-year-old.
Identified as an ideal candidate to occupy Amorim’s newly implemented wing-back role on the left-hand side, Dorgu has previously been targeted by both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
The Danish international earned high praise – that United would’ve undoubtedly taken heed of – from his ex-Nordsjaelland coach, Johannes Hoff Thorup. He told Bold: “I had him as a U14 and U17 player, and he did very well there, as he is doing now.
“He is a very dynamic and physical player who can run 90 minutes, and I actually don’t think he missed a training session in the time he was here in North Zealand, so he really is a machine in that regard. A very humble boy who works hard for things.”
