There was one Chelsea official who was reportedly behind the signing of winger Pedro Neto, and it was not one of the sporting directors.

Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have very much become the faces of Chelsea’s recruitment and squad build of late, but it wasn’t them who was the driving force behind the Neto signing, according to a report this week.

EXCLUSIVE! Premier League club make enquiry to sign Chelsea player that could lead to swap deal seeing striker going the other way!!

Neto has become a quick fan favourite after starting his Chelsea career in flying style. His battling, defensive work, and creativity and menace in attack, has seen Blues fans really take him on board and enjoy watching him play at Stamford Bridge.

The signing came from nowhere really when Chelsea got him in from Wolves in the summer. There were hardly any reports or rumours suggesting that the club were going to go in for him and then all of sudden, boom, they had signed Neto from Wolves.

It was a deal that was done quick and without any nonsense, and perhaps that is because of the man who drove the deal, Blues co-owner Behdad Eghbali.

Eghbali instrumental in Neto pursuit

Neto has been a top signing

The Chelsea owner was apparently in the Stamford Bridge dressing room again on Sunday after the Arsenal game, and it was part of that report that went on to say about Eghbali being the one behind signing Neto.

London World say Eghbali only emerged from the Chelsea dressing room on Sunday when almost all the Chelsea players, including the manager, had already left the room. This has been a particularly significant time for the Chelsea co-owner, who, as London World reveals, played an instrumental role in bringing Pedro Neto to the club.

That’s interesting for sure. I did wonder at the time how it was so quiet and how it was done so quick. Eghbali is known for his no-nonsense approach when it comes to signing new players.
