The race to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot is heating up nicely with just four goals separating the top four scorers in the division.
Erling Haaland has cruised to the accolade in each of the last two seasons, but Manchester City’s struggles and improved competition have threatened his status as the Premier League’s goal king.
Chris Wood’s hat-trick in Nottingham Forest’s 7-0 win over Brighton has catapulted the 33-year-old into the conversation. Could we see a new winner this season? Or will a familiar face end the campaign on top?
Assessing the latest online betting odds, we’ve ranked the five favourites to win the 2024/25 Premier League Golden Boot.
Cole Palmer is fifth favourite in the latest selections, following another productive season for Chelsea’s talisman. Palmer scored 22 goals to finish as runner-up for the accolade last season and has 14 and counting in 2024/25.
The 22-year-old has been a revelation since swapping the blue of Manchester City for Chelsea, emerging as one of the most exciting talents in Europe. However, Palmer has serious ground to make up if he is to overhaul those ahead of him in the Golden Boot race.
Chris Wood’s hat-trick at the weekend has hauled the New Zealander into the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot. He has 17 for the campaign, just four behind Mohamed Salah.
It’s the best goalscoring season of Wood’s career in the Premier League and has helped fire Nottingham Forest into Champions League contention.
Should Wood end the season as the Premier League’s top scorer, it would mean there has been a Golden Boot winner from each of FIFA’s six continental federations.
Alexander Isak is aiming to become the first Newcastle player to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot since Alan Shearer in 1996/97.
Last season, Isak became the first Newcastle player since Shearer to score 20+ goals in a top-flight league season and is on course to match that achievement in 2024/25. He has 17 goals for the campaign, following a prolific run over the festive period.
Isak has 13 goals in his last 11 league games and is the man in form.
Erling Haaland is targeting a third consecutive Premier League Golden Boot this season.
Only Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry have ever won three top-scorer accolades in a row and Haaland is well placed to join that duo. He has scored 19 goals in 24 appearances for Manchester City so far this season.
He’s now scored 82 goals in just 90 league games since arriving in English football.
Mohamed Salah is also chasing a piece of history in 2024/25.
Salah leads the Premier League for goals having scored 21 times to fire Liverpool to the top of the table. He is aiming for a record-equalling fourth Premier League Golden Boot accolade, an achievement only Thierry Henry has accomplished before him.
Incredibly, Salah also leads the league for assists (13). His performances have placed the Egyptian international in the conversation for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
