Newcastle United are Carabao Cup champions.

It was the second highest crowd to ever watch Newcastle United in a league cup match, behind only the 100,000 fans in attendance in the 1976 League Cup final.

Newcastle lost in that game, with Alan Gowling scoring the only goal in a 2-1 loss to Manchester City, which was the last time that Newcastle had scored a goal in a Wembley cup final, until Dan Burn's header in the 45th minute yesterday.

Alexander Isak then added the second of the game for Newcastle United in the 52nd minute, scoring on his 100th appearance for the club.

Burn and Isak join an exclusive club of Wembley Cup final goalscorers for Newcastle United, joining Neil Harris, Stan Seymour, Jack Allen, Jackie Milburn, George Robledo, Bobby Mitchell, George Hannah and Alan Gowling.

Bruno Guimarães, Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles join the Magpies list of cup-final captains to lift the trophy, joining Frank Hudspeth, Jimmy Nelson, Joe Harvey and Jimmy Scoular.

Eddie Howe joins Andy Cummingham (1932), Stan Seymour (1951 & 1952) and Doug Livingstone (1955) as Wembley cup winning managers (in 1924 a ‘Committee’ selected the team).

The victory keeps Newcastle United's 100% record of winning in London alive so far in 2025, with wins over Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham and now in Wembley Stadium.

The win also ensures that Newcastle United were the only unbeaten team in the entirety of the Carabao Cup, winning both of their semi-final legs against Arsenal, and the final against Liverpool to ensure a 100% record.

On their way to lifting the Carabao Cup, Newcastle also defeated the top-four teams in the Premier League table. They beat Nottingham Forest in the second round, Chelsea in the fourth round, Arsenal in the semi-final and Liverpool in the final.

The victory in the final was also Newcastle United's 50th against Liverpool.

It was also the first Newcastle victory over Liverpool since 6 December 2015, a barren run of 17-games.

Two United players made their Wembley debuts yesterday, Sandro Tonali and Emil Kraft.

Joelinton and Sean Longstaff are both on 20 NUFC League Cup appearances, just 3 behind the Newcastle United record of Rob Lee (23).
