With Spurs’ disappointing draw at home to Wolves, there 2024 was concluded.

It is safe to say it has not been the year anybody wanted, with an inability to build on the progress made in the second half of 2023.

Still, amdist the chaos – there were some good moments. Here are the three best games of the calendar year.

3) Aston Villa away

Coming into this game, both sides were firmly locking horns in the battle for the fourth European spot.

Spurs had been struggling on the road, and Villa had been formidable at home. This was seen as a very tough game.

After a goalless first half, everything began to fall in the favour of Ange’s side early in the second period.

Just five minutes after the break, Maddison scored the opening goal of the game from close range, having been well found by Pape Sarr.

Just three minutes later, one became two. Heung Min-Son slipped Brennan Johnson through on goal, and the Welshman kept his composure to fire past Emi Martinez in the Villa goal.

With twenty-five minutes remaining, captain John McGinn was shown a red card for a late foul on Destiny Udogie, allowing the game to really open up for Spurs and take advantage of the opportunity at hand from there on in.

It looked like Tottenham were going to come away with an, in the circumstances, slightly underwhelming 2-0 victory – but they really put the gloss on things in stoppage time.

Superb work down the right hand side from Dejan Kulusevski created space for him to cut the ball back to Son, who emphatically fired a strike into the back of the net.

Then, four minutes into stoppages – good work from Son lead to a cutback for Timo Werner, who expertly finished the ball into the far corner.

At the moment, it feels like everything that could go wrong, is going wrong. That day, it felt like everything that could go well, did go well.
