Serie A giants Juventus fell to a 4-0 loss to Atalanta in Turin yesterday and this led to manager Thiago Motta shutting down any talk about the Scudetto.

Before the game, Juve were only six points behind league leaders Inter and Atalanta were only three points behind the Nerazzurri. La Dea increased the gap between themselves and the Bianconeri and also remained in touching distance of the league leaders.

Juve are now nine behind Inter, days after they were spoken of as potential Scudetto contenders because of the gap between themselves and Simone Inzaghi’s side.

After the 4-0 loss, Motta refuted any talk of the title. He told DAZN, via La Gazzetta dello Sport: “We are the youngest team in the league, we want to move forward and we suffered on a mental level. We went out on a limb and left the field. But now this story of the scudetto, which you put us in, will no longer be talked about and now we start again, we have Fiorentina.”

He also spoke about the performance, which was largely dictated by Atalanta. He said: “In the first half, they were the ones who had to play the game and play differently, today we saw especially after the first goal that we made technical errors going forward.

“So we gave more chances to a team that has good players on the counterattack and in this sense we suffered a lot. For this reason I say it’s a shame to unlock the game with that penalty.”

Juve play another vital game next Sunday, when they take on Fiorentina. There is currently only a seven-point gap between the two sides.
