The defender spent four years with the Canaries from 2016 to 2020, and was a key part of the first team squad during this period.

However, he has since joined the Tractor Boys from Atalanta, arriving on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The 27-year-old made just one appearance in Serie A this season before making the switch to Kieran McKenna’s side, where he made his debut in the FA Cup last weekend

Godfrey has claimed that he has moved on from his time at Norwich, and that he is now at a different point in his career.

He is grateful for the time he spent with the Norfolk outfit, but that he now believes it is his job to play for Ipswich and there isn’t much more to it than that.

“Players move on and things change, coming here was the right decision for my career,” said Godfrey, via Pink Un.

“The Ipswich Town fans have been unbelievable as has everyone here, it was a nice welcome.

“It’s a great stadium to play in, I’ve always thought that even when I was on the other side of things.

“It’s a good atmosphere and we’ll need them throughout the year.

“It will be good to see them again against Brighton.

“There are quite a lot of people who I’ve played with who have moved on.

“I met some great people there.

“It’s well-known that I was a Norwich player, but that’s football and players move on.

“I’m an Ipswich Town player and my job here is to do the best for this club.”

Norwich are currently 11th in the Championship table, while Ipswich are 17th in the Premier League.

Godfrey decision is entirely sensible

Supporters will dislike when players swap one rival for another, and there are many examples of that ire being expressed over the years.

But for someone like Godfrey, playing football is a job at the end of the day and a move to Ipswich isn’t as big of a deal for someone who isn’t a supporter.

His comments are entirely sensible, and he shouldn’t need to justify the move, and Norwich supporters will just have to live with that.

However, if the two sides were to meet with Godfrey playing, then he can also expect to hear about it from the fans at the game too.
