David Bombeke the personal physio of Romeo Lavia has been left bemused by the midfielder’s terrible luck with injuries.

Lavia arrived at Chelsea from Southampton in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth up to £58m, but his time at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by injury.

The Belgian played just 32 minutes of football last season, and whilst he’s fared better this campaign he’s still missed a significant amount of games, although he’s now back in training.

Lavia injury issues leave his physio bemused

Lavia was one of the standout performers in pre-season and looked set for a key role under Enzo Maresca after starting the first game of the season against Manchester City.

The 21-year-old returned to action as a late substitute in the defeat against Arsenal earlier this month, but has still suffered injury issues, which have limited him to just 11 Premier League appearances.

Lavia is back in Chelsea training and available for selection.

Bombeke, who has worked with both Lavia and Chelsea is at a loss to explain the midfielder’s constant injury issues.

“A one-off serious injury is also a setback of course but this, he rolls from injury to injury and has been out for a long time a few times, then questions gradually arise,” he told Belgian outlet HLN.

“Given the circumstances, he’s dealing with it well. Of course, something like that gets into your head, but Romeo realises that it can be solved. He doesn’t see it fatalistically, this is going to stop one day, right?”

When he has featured this season Lavia has demonstrated the quality he possesses, and Chelsea will be hoping he can stay fit for the run in and help them qualify for the Champions League.

Lavia unfortunately won’t be able to help in the quest for Conference League glory as he’s not in the squad, whilst Maresca revealed earlier this season he felt sad for the midfielder.

Focus for Lavia has got to be on staying fit for the remainder of the season and ensuring he doesn’t suffer another injury plagued campaign next season, otherwise Chelsea might have to consider moving him on.
