Real Madrid have been working hard to renew the contract of Dani Carvajal in recent weeks given that his current deal expires next summer.

Now 32, the club only offers one-year extensions owing to the unsaid rule that predominates in the Spanish capital. The player, however, is open to it and expressed his willingness to commit to a renewal recently.

As revealed yesterday, the completion of the deal is only considered a matter of time. Needless to say, this comes as great news for Carlo Ancelotti and the Real Madrid faithful.

Madrid Universal brings you three reasons why the management will be thrilled with Carvajal’s renewal.

Fine form

Ancelotti has seldom had to bat an eye towards the right-back position at Real Madrid in his latest stint for Dani Carvajal and always has all bases covered.

The Spaniard has been in phenomenal form for Los Blancos over the past two years and has become a crucial part of the setup which went on to win the UEFA Champions League and La Liga last season.

His good form has only extended out to the Spanish national team where he won the European Championships as a regular starter and thus even earned a nomination for this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Last season, the veteran recorded four goals and three assists for Real Madrid in La Liga, creating four big chances and averaging just under one key pass per game.

Defensively, he oversaw eight clean sheets and produced over seven defensive actions per game.

Much-needed experience

Real Madrid’s transition to the new generation is almost complete with the team bubbling with young faces all over the field.

The one position that does not have a young name vying for a place yet is the right-back position and possible for the greater good.

Toni Kroos’ departure last season leaves Los Blancos with very few experienced players of the previous generation in the team. Considering that Luka Modric is not a regular starter, Carvajal brings much-needed experience on the field.

As a veteran who has been in the business for decades, Carvajal’s knowledge of dealing with difficult situations and expertise is invaluable for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. With his renewal, the team ties down his rich knowledge for an additional year.

Time to groom a replacement

Already 32 years of age, Carvajal is now entering the tail end of his career. Despite his good form, one would expect only a couple of years in his boots before he slips past his best.

Real Madrid, thus, are already on the hunt for a new right-back to succeed the Spanish veteran and their pursuit could well run for the next year.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has emerged as a strong option to take over at right-back, but the club will need to groom a younger name in case the Liverpool star does not arrive.

Carvajal’s continuity, thus, gives the administration the required time to find, develop and prepare the next right-back of the team as he will handle the reins for another year at least.

Meanwhile, he too can help in developing his successor if the club manage to sign one next summer.
