Today’s training will be decisive for a decision on whether Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu gets a call-up against Hellas Verona tomorrow.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter breathed a sigh of relief regarding the fitness of midfielder Calhanoglu yesterday.
The Turkish international had come off with a thigh problem during his team’s Nations League clash with Wales during the international break.
However, Calhanoglu underwent medical tests with the Nerazzurri medical staff yesterday.
These did not show any injuries for the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.
Therefore, Calhanoglu should already be available for Inter’s first few matches back from the international break.
The 30-year-old had missed a total of four matches prior to the break due to a thigh strain.
However, there will not be a similar spell on the sidelines this time.
It is not yet certain whether or not Calhanoglu will play any part in Inter’s first match back from the break, however.
The Nerazzurri face Hellas Verona away in Serie A tomorrow evening.
One way or another, Calhanoglu will not start that match. He will hardly be rushed back into the starting eleven for that match, particularly considering the number of matches Inter have on the way.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will instead give Kristjan Asllani the nod.
But the question is whether or not Calhanoglu will even be in the squad for tomorrow’s match.
The Turk could be on the bench for the Serie A clash at the Bentegodi.
However, if there is a sense that there are any risks for Calhanoglu’s fitness, he could miss the match outright in order to focus on his recovery.
Today’s training will be decisive in making a decision, reports the Corriere.
Calhanoglu’s fitness and sharpness will be assessed in view of tomorrow’s match.
