Sandro Tonali is pleased with his spell at Newcastle United, but he’d be glad to return to Milan down the line if the circumstances aligned favorably. He started by addressing his departure in an interview with La Repubblica (via Tuttomercatoweb).
“It’s tough, as you can’t decide on your own in football. It’s filled with money for both the players and the clubs. If you say no, the team has to be on the same page. In top sides, with so much cash on the line, stalwarts are utopic. With my transfer, I have taken something away from the Rossoneri on one side, but I also helped them balance the books.”
Tonali was quizzed about life in the Premier League and a potential Milan comeback.
“This experience has enriched me and not only economically. I’ve grown and discovered a new country, football, and language. I have no regrets. The thought about returning is returning one day is there, but it’s not my first after waking up. I was born on the same day as Franco Baresi. I remember the few times I’ve worn the captain’s armband well. We briefly discussed it together.”
Rather than Milan, Tonali was linked to Juventus in January.
“My agents and I have never had a conversation about that. In my experience, if you don’t get to that point, it means that there’s nothing concrete. I’m comfortable with myself here, I’ve settled in on my routine and don’t want to turn it upside-down again. I want to win for the Newcastle fans. We’ll have our first shot at that in Wembley in the Carabao Cup.”
