Tottenham beat Manchester United

Scorers: Maddison 13'

Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in a low quality affair in north London as both sides looked to end their run of horrid form.

Ange Postecoglou's side dominated the ball in the early stages, but it was the Red Devils who had the better early chances as Rasmus Hojlund tested Vicario before Diogo Dalot's effort was cleared almost off the line by Ben Davies.

Minutes later though, Spurs were ahead through James Maddison. After Andre Onana kept out Lucas Bergvall's initial effort, Maddison reacted first to poke home the opening goal.

In an end to end affair, Manchester United should have been level midway through the first half, only for Alejandro Garnacho to blaze over from 12 yards out with the goal at his mercy.

But Tottenham began to take a firm grip on the game, dominating the ball as they probed for a second goal.

However, United held on until the interval, despite Casemiro seeing yellow for a late challenge on Heung-Min Son.

The second half began much how the first ended, as Tottenham threatened and Mathys Tel tested Onana before the Frenchman fired another effort over.

But Manchester United rallied, and Garnacho tested Vicario twice in quick succession as Tottenham wobbled briefly, before they re-established their control over the game, introducing Brennan Johnson and Pape Sarr.

Still the lead remained precarious though, and Joshua Zirkzee came close to levelling the game only to head wide, before Hojlund fired straight at Vicario.

And the game took on an increasing end to end look as both sides looked for the second goal in the closing stages.

But though Ruben Amorim threw on Chido Obi for his Red Devils debut, his side could not find an equaliser and it was Spurs who took all three points, leaving Amorim's side languishing down in 15th place.

Liverpool edge past Wolves

Scorers: Díaz 15', Salah (PEN) 37'; Cunha 67'

Liverpool restored their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League by narrowly seeing off Wolves 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

It took them just 15 minutes to open the scoring when Luis Díaz bundled home from close range thanks to some fortuitous bounces of the ball after good work from Diogo Jota in the build-up.

Twenty minutes later, Díaz was involved again as the Reds doubled their lead when he was taken down by goalkeeper José Sá and from the resulting penalty, Mo Salah scored his 28th goal of the campaign.

Shortly after half-time, Marshall Munetsi came close to reducing the deficit but he was denied by a huge save from Alisson before Salah was denied his second of the afternoon by the offside flag.

Liverpool then had a penalty awarded and overturned following a VAR check and making the most of their reprieve, Wolves made it 2-1 when Matheus Cunha curled home from the edge of the area but they couldn't find a leveller in the closing stages despite giving the Reds several scares.
