Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski looks almost certain to miss next week's Europa League final after undergoing knee surgery.

Kulusevski suffered a problem with his right patellar during the weekend defeat to Crystal Palace.

Spurs have now confirmed that further medical consultation has led to the decision for the Swedish winger to undergo surgery on the issue.

A statement from the club explained on Wednesday afternoon explained that Kulusevski will "commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately".

Spurs haven't offered any sort of recovery timeframe, however, it seems highly unlikely that Kulusevski will be fit to play in the Europa League final just one week after going under the knife.

It would be an almighty blow to Tottenham's chances of victory over Manchester United in Bilbao.

Kulusevski has 21 goals and assists to his name across all competitions this season. He has netted twice against United in particular, in Premier League and Carabao Cup wins.

After overseeing a poor domestic campaign, Ange Postecoglou is banking on the Europa League to maintain his record of always winning a trophy in his second season at a club. Success in the final would deliver a first piece of major silverware for Spurs in 17 years.

Victory also means Champions League qualification, almost like a get out of jail free card after failing to qualify for European football next season via the conventional domestic league route.
