It has been an eventful deadline day at Bayern Munich in terms of outgoings. Mathys Tel has been holding talks with several clubs over the past few days. After initially rejecting a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Tel has now decided to spend the second half of the season with the North London side.

According to multiple media outlets in England, France, and Germany, Tottenham Hotspur have agreed on a loan deal with Bayern for Mathys Tel. The Premier League side will get the French forward on a dry loan as there is no option or obligation to buy in the deal.

Tel was reportedly keen on a move to Manchester United until Sunday. However, talks broke down between two clubs over the weekend. Arsenal were also interested in Tel, but they couldn’t find a breakthrough in talks with Die Roten.

The young French forward is expected to undergo medical in the next few hours and sign the paperwork before the deadline. Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou reportedly convinced Tel to complete a move after having a long chat with the French forward over the weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur had a bid worth 60 million accepted by Bayern for Tel last week. However, the French winger had rejected the move at that stage. Considering other avenues closing down and no clarity on getting adequate game time in Munich, Tel has probably accepted to play for Spurs during the second half of the season.

The North London side will cover the wages of Tel during the second half of the season, but there has been no clarity on the loan fee agreed between the two clubs.

Tel may eventually seal a permanent transfer in the summer

Considering Bayern's willingness to make a permanent deal for Tel during the winter transfer window, it looks like a permanent move away from Bavaria will be a genuine possibility in the summer.

Tel is still eager to succeed at Bayern, but he will not compromise on game time moving ahead. From Bayern’s perspective, they will need Tel to play regularly for Spurs and have a productive second half of the season. The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal will be in the mix if he excels at Spurs. The North London side will also try to negotiate a transfer fee for the forward in the summer.

It is a shame that Tel had to leave Bayern this transfer window, but adequate game time is crucial for him to take the next step in his development. The Bavarian faithful will be happy for now that he is just going out on loan.
