Sekou Kone has joined Manchester United’s injury list after playing in an EFL Trophy defeat to Huddersfield Town.

The youngster joined the club on deadline day and has been thrown into the academy to learn the English game before being promoted to the first team.

That said, Kone is highly rated at United and there are plans for him to eventually make the senior squad.

Kone went down after being on the receiving end of a tough challenge after 42 minutes before hobbling off the pitch.

The sight of him on crutches and in a protective boot, however, will have set alarm bells ringing but we hope it isn’t anything serious.

Hopefully, this injury setback doesn’t rule Kone out for too long. He is new at the club and still finding his feet.

Kone’s defensive traits were clear to see in the first half before his injury as United conceded three of the four goals after the break.

Tyrell Malacia ended 17 months of injury woe as he returned to action in the EFL Trophy last night.

The 25-year-old made 39 appearances for United in his first season (2022-23), but he has not played a senior competitive match since June 2023 when he represented the Netherlands against Croatia.

Malacia played the first half before being replaced by Harry Amass, with some members of the hierarchy stood in the stands.

Technical director Jason Wilcox, head of academy Nick Cox and first-team coach Darren Fletcher were all in attendance to watch Travis Binnion’s young side.
