Liverpool have confirmed centre-back Virgil van Dijk has put pen to paper on a new contract.
The Reds have faced significant pressure all season to resolve the futures of Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the expiration of their contracts this summer. While the latter is expected to depart on a free transfer, Salah got the ball rolling last week by inking fresh terms.
Van Dijk has now followed suit, putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract at Anfield.
"I'm very happy, very proud," Van Dijk told club media. "There are so many emotions obviously that go through my head right now speaking about it.
"It's a proud feeling, it's a feeling of joy. It's just incredible. The journey I've had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy."
There had been significant speculation that Van Dijk could move to another European giant - Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were both touted as suitors - but the centre-back has insisted he has always wanted to extend with Liverpool.
"It was always Liverpool," he stressed. "That was the case. It was always in my head, it was always the plan and it was always Liverpool.
"There wasn’t any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family. I’m one of Liverpool. Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser – I’m really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling."
