It has been a busy January transfer window for Huddersfield Town so far, and they may be looking to do more business before Monday's deadline.

Huddersfield have emerged as serious automatic promotion contenders in League One after an excellent few months, but their 16-game unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a 1-0 defeat against managerless Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

It was a disappointing afternoon for the Terriers, but they remain fourth in the table, seven points behind second-placed Wycombe Wanderers and nine points behind leaders Birmingham City, who they welcome to the John Smith's Stadium on Tuesday night.

Town manager Michael Duff has been given strong backing by owner Kevin Nagle this month, with three new signings arriving at the club in defender Ruben Roosken and strikers Joe Taylor and Dion Charles.

Huddersfield are believed to have signed Taylor for a fee in excess of £3 million, while Charles reportedly cost them £750,000, so it remains to be seen whether Duff will be allowed to bolster his squad further, but the sale of defender Michal Helik to Oxford United will have brought in funds.

When asked what a dream end to the transfer window for the club would look like, FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit Graeme Rayner said that he hopes to see the addition of an attacking wing-back and a creative midfielder before the deadline.

"I think the last few games has shown that, even with two new strikers on board, we are still lacking a little bit of creativity in midfield and perhaps a bit of a natural width," Graeme said.

"The width might take care of itself because Lasse Sorensen is coming back from injury and getting minutes again, and Ruben Roosken is back from suspension soon.

"However, we might consider ourselves short of natural cover there as Ollie Turton isn't really an attacking wing-back on the right, and we don't have backup on the left with any quality in that position until Mikel Miller comes back from injury.

"I'd like to see us bring in someone who can play as an attacking wing-back, ideally on either side, and a creative midfielder that can play in the eight or 10 role and inject some pace into our passing in midfield and open up defences.

"The last few games has shown that, even with two new strikers, we're really lacking rapid, creative, incisive midfield play.

"I never thought I'd say this, but we're really missing David Kasumu, who has been our best midfielder for a few months, now that he's injured because he does inject that quick passing and transition play and ball carrying.

"Something like that would be great, it probably isn't realistic, but someone in a Lewis O'Brien mould who can carry the ball forward quickly or someone who can build on the promise Joe Hodge has shown when he's had some good game time.

"I think we're okay at the back, I know some people want Michal Helik replaced, but I think we're okay.

"If we were to look at the back, what we lack is real pace other than Radinio Balker, and that showed a lot on Saturday in the game against Bolton.

"Tom Lees and Matty Pearson are very good defenders, they're robust, they're strong and Tom Lees reads the game very well, but neither of them have got any real pace to offer.

"If we were to address two of those three areas, I'd be really happy.

"In terms of outgoings, if anyone came in for Josh Koroma, we should let him go, and Sorba Thomas to Hull looks like a good deal, so those will be two good options to get off the books.

"If we could find somewhere for Freddie Ladapo or Bojan Radulovic to move on to, I think that would be sensible as well.

"I think all of those are realistic, but how much of that can be achieved, I don't know.

"If it was me in charge and I had a week to do it, that's what I would be devoting my energy to, I wouldn't be sitting back on my laurels and thinking the job is done."

It has already been a busy transfer window for Huddersfield, but there could be more new arrivals to come before Monday's deadline.

The Terriers have addressed their goalscoring problems with the additions of Taylor and Charles, but Duff bemoaned a "lack of quality" from his side after the defeat to Bolton on Saturday, suggesting that he may be keen to bring in the type of midfielder capable of unlocking defences that Graeme describes.

Nagle has already likely spent much of his January budget, but with Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham both faltering in recent weeks, he may feel that Town have a strong chance of achieving automatic promotion this season, so one more statement signing in the coming days cannot be ruled out.
