At the end of this season, we could see the end of a host of illustrious Manchester City careers. Pep Guardiola’s squad needs a refresh and that could see a host of players depart the Premier League champions next summer. A new report indicates that Ederson could potentially leave Manchester City next summer. If that report proves to be correct we could be entering the final months of a storied City career.
Phil Thomas has reported for The Sun that Ederson could leave the Etihad at the end of the season. Furthermore, Thomas adds that Manchester City could listen to offers of £25 million for their number-one keeper. Thomas adds that there was interest from the Saudi Pro League in Ederson last summer. City are unlikely to stand in Ederson’s way if he decides to call time on his time with the Premier League champions at the end of the season.
Currently, Ederson is on the comeback trail from injury. He returned to training last week and could return to Pep Guardiola’s squad this weekend against Salford. Despite the strong recent form of Stefan Ortega, Ederson still has a crucial role to play for Pep Guardiola and his team. But if Phil Thomas’ report is on the money we could be entering the final months of a storied City career.
Since arriving at Manchester City from Benfica Ederson has arguably secured his place as Manchester City’s greatest ever goalkeeper. In 350 appearances for the club, he has played a crucial role in City’s recent dominance. His shot-stopping and ability with his feet have been integral to Manchester City’s dominance of the Premier League and every other competition Pep Guardiola’s side has won. His performance in Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League triumph in 2023 over Inter Milan will go down in Manchester City folklore. If any one performance can sum up just how important Ederson has been to his team that was it.
Based on the report from Phil Thomas we could be entering the final months of Ederson’s time at Manchester City. If the Brazilian does decide to leave the club next summer he will leave as a club great. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Ederson. But he has done all he can for his team and if he does leave at the end the season his standing at the club is secure.
