Manchester United beat Ipswich 3-2 despite being down to 10 men, and Ruben Amorim has said it was fully deserved.

The Red Devils went a man down after Patrick Dorgu was sent off in the 43rd minute of what had already been a very busy first period, with three goals having gone in.

On Dorgu, Amorim said: “Players can have a mistake like Patrick today. The sending off, he wants to play the ball.

“He is ready for the Premier League. Last week he had a good performance against Everton, today they [the critics] will say he is not experienced enough for the Premier League, but I don’t feel that way.”

It felt as though United would struggle to control the game or create chances a man down, but Amorim wasn’t concerned about that: “Today I’m not frustrated. We controlled the game and since the first minute I felt the players were trying to play and we managed to score two goals.

“The sending off changed the game a bit but the fight the fans showed and the fans helped a lot and we fully deserved the three points.

“There are some moments that are really hard but that’s natural in every profession, you need to suffer.”

Despite the positive performance and result, the Portuguese will be disappointed that Alejandro Garnacho didn’t seem to respond well to being substituted.

He walked straight down the tunnel, and Amorim said afterwards: “I am going to talk with Garnacho about that.”

The 20-year-old has already been in trouble with his manager this season, and fans will be hoping this doesn’t boil over.

United will now turn their attention to the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday. With a lot of the big teams out already, it could present an excellent opportunity for Amorim to pick up some silverware in his first season.
