Wesley Fofana had a solid game at the back for Chelsea last night, and after the game he spoke to Chelsea TV about the positives and the frustrations of a draw with a strong team at home.

“Happy, but not a lot. Because we didn’t win at home, and the feeling is a bit harsh, because we played well and gave everything but we didn’t win the 3 points. But I’m happy for the team, everybody played well, everybody gave everything, and it’s like this we will build something incredible,” the defender said, trying to look on the bright side.

“Yeah, Arsenal are a big team in the Premier League, last season they finished second. We’re happy because we played well against this team, and we see we have the level to fight with the big clubs. It’s good for the future. We need to work every day a bit more because we need to win some games like this, but it’s a good sign for the future.”

Enzo Maresca speaking post-game to Chelsea TV cameras.

Maresca and Fofana claim Chelsea just one step away

Enzo Maresca had made similar comments in his interview post-game, pointing (as always) to the length of tenure of Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola as the key difference between his team and theirs.

It’s a totally reasonable point, and on that basis alone Maresca’s team did very well to compete with the Gunners, who have had 5 years of Arteta, while the Italian has barely been in the job 5 months.

If we continue our steady progress, we will do just what Fofana says and start winning these matches.
