What Are The Chances of Liverpool Winning The Treble?

Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Southampton may not have been their most polished performance, but as manager Arne Slot put it, “the first of three finals” ended in success. With a commanding 16-point lead in the Premier League, the Reds are firmly in control of their domestic campaign while eyeing further silverware.
The upcoming schedule is relentless. A crucial Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain and the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle stand between Liverpool and their next league fixture. Despite their FA Cup exit last month at the hands of Plymouth, they remain in contention for three trophies, reinforcing their credentials as one of Europe’s elite.
Slot, reflecting on the Southampton result, acknowledged the team’s shortcomings but praised their resilience. “It’s a sign of a good team that you can win in different ways,” he told BBC Match of the Day. “It was a poor performance in the first half – not just because of how we played but also because of the energy we brought.”

Mohamed Salah was instrumental yet again, converting two penalties, while Darwin Núñez completed the comeback after Will Smallbone had given the Premier League’s bottom side a shock lead. A miscommunication between Virgil van Dijk and Alisson contributed to the early setback, but Liverpool showed their trademark fighting spirit to secure the points.
Slot was clear in his post-match assessment: “This was the most important game of the week. The first of three finals. I hope in the next finals we play a bit better than the first one.”
Salah, who now boasts 32 goals in all competitions, was similarly candid. “I don’t think we played good today,” he admitted. However, his impact remains undeniable, having been involved in 44 Premier League goals this season (27 goals, 17 assists) – the joint-most by a player in a 38-game campaign.
“If you want to win the Champions League or Premier League, you have to win these games like that,” Salah added.
Liverpool’s attention now turns to Paris Saint-Germain, where they hold a slender 1-0 advantage from the first leg. Slot was quick to issue a challenge to his squad ahead of Tuesday’s second leg at Anfield.
“The only good thing in the first 45 minutes was that they saved their energy [for PSG] and didn’t run at all,” he joked. “We have to go one step up in terms of intensity against PSG. Compared to today, we have to go three, four, five, six, seven times up if we want to have any chance of reaching the next round.”
Next Sunday, the Reds will compete for their first silverware of the Slot era when they face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. Midfielder Harvey Elliott, a key figure in Liverpool’s recent resurgence, underlined the team’s focus: “The last two games have been very tough – it is not about me, it’s about the whole team. We need to keep winning games – it’s as simple as that.”
Historically, only a handful of English clubs have won three major trophies in a single season. Manchester United (1998-99) and Manchester City (2022-23) have completed the coveted Treble of the European Cup, domestic league, and FA Cup. Liverpool have twice secured three trophies in a season, first in 1983-84 (First Division title, League Cup, and European Cup) and again in 2000-01 (FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup).
Despite missing out on the quadruple this term, Liverpool’s pursuit of multiple trophies remains alive. The Premier League title appears a near certainty, with Opta assigning them a 98.9% chance of finishing top. Arsenal, 16 points adrift with two games in hand, could theoretically extend the race into May, but Liverpool need just 18 points from their remaining fixtures to be mathematically assured of the crown.
Their Champions League aspirations also look strong, with Liverpool favourites to advance past PSG. According to Opta’s probability model, they hold a 26% chance of lifting the trophy in June.
Meanwhile, the Carabao Cup final represents an immediate opportunity to bring silverware back to Anfield. Slot’s men enter the Newcastle clash as overwhelming favourites, with bookmakers pricing them at around 1-4 to triumph at Wembley.
With the season reaching its decisive phase, Liverpool’s ability to navigate high-pressure moments will determine whether this campaign is merely a strong one or a truly historic one.
