The January transfer window will offer Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim his first real opportunity to shape the squad since taking over midseason. However, significant changes are expected to come next summer, with Amorim reportedly targeting another player from Paris Saint-Germain.
United’s move for Manuel Ugarte from PSG last summer has already paid off, with the midfielder thriving under Amorim’s leadership, rekindling the partnership they previously built at Sporting Lisbon. Now, the Portuguese coach is said to be eyeing another former Sporting player—22-year-old left-back Nuno Mendes.
Manchester United remains interested in Mendes, with the player reportedly open to reuniting with Amorim after discussions with his representatives, as reported by CaughtOffside.
If Mendes cannot agree on a contract extension with PSG, the French giants may be willing to entertain offers of around €70 million during the summer transfer window.

As transfer rumors swirl about Mendes’ potential move to Old Trafford, French football expert Robin Bairner shared his thoughts on whether the Portugal international might make the surprising switch in the near future.
“Manchester United is obviously a huge club, but if you’re Nuno Mendes, you have to ask yourself, ‘Why would you go there at this point in time?'” Bairner said on the latest PSG Talking podcast. “The club’s a mess at the moment, frankly. They’re in the middle of the Premier League table and not going to qualify for Europe.
“The direction of the project at Manchester United seems to change all the time. And although there have been similar issues at PSG, there seems to be a lot more stability around the club. He obviously fits in and knows the environment.
“I just wonder how much of what we’re seeing in terms of Nuno Mendes’ transfer rumors in the media is agent talk—his agent trying to drive up his wage and extract the most for his client. Nuno Mendes is at the bottom of the PSG pay scale and has been one of the most important players this season.
“He doesn’t deserve to be paid what he’s being paid compared to other PSG players. His agent will appreciate that and be trying to ramp up and get as much money for Nuno Mendes as possible, which is his job. PSG fans might not like it, but it’s just the way the game is played.”
