Paris Saint-Germain suffered a blow in their match against AS Monaco on Wednesday night when Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced to leave the field early in the first half. The incident occurred when Donnarumma came out to challenge Wilfried Singo, who was lining up for a potential shot.
As the two players closed in, Singo touched the ball and attempted to jump over the PSG goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the timing was off, and Donnarumma ended up taking a cleat to the face.
The injury forced the Italian keeper to exit the game, but PSG went on to win 4-2. After the match, RMC Sport’s Arthur Perrot shared a photo showing the extent of Donnarumma’s facial injury. Singo later posted an apology on Instagram, expressing regret over the incident that caused the PSG star’s injury.
“I want to apologize to Gianluigi Donnarumma,” Singo wrote. “My gesture was not intentional, but I’ve realized from the aftermath that he sustained a serious injury to his face. I wish him a speedy recovery.”
PSG announced after the match that Donnarumma, who suffered facial trauma, will return to Paris with the team this evening rather than remaining in Monaco. He will undergo medical examinations on Thursday and is expected to remain inactive for several days.
