The agent of Manchester United defender Harry Amass has confirmed that they had loan offers to leave Old Trafford during the January transfer window but they turned them down.

Amass made his Premier League debut last month, coming off the bench in a 3-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. He enjoyed a solid cameo during the time he was on the pitch and in the process, earned himself his first start for the club soon after.

Ruben Amorim named him in the starting XI that suffered a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park. A few days later, Amass repaid Amorim’s faith and helped United stage a dramatic comeback against Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.

The 18-year-old started again last weekend as the Red Devils slipped to a 1-0 loss at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was sensational against Vitor Pereira’s men, drawing praise from Amorim.

Amass has enjoyed a rapid rise at United, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Despite impressing during the club’s pre-season tour, he had to bide his time for a chance under Erik ten Hag. By January, reports suggested that United were preparing to field loan offers for the young defender.

His agent, Jason Mac, spoke to Fabrizio Romano for GIVEMESPORT and discussed the academy graduate’s progress.

Mac told the news outlet, “The journey has been great to see at Man United and the feeling is amazing.”

“Every young player dreams of playing for a club like Manchester United. It was only two years ago Harry was playing in the FA Youth Cup team as a 16-year-old for Watford.”

“Harry and his mum’s hard work in the early days shouldn’t go unnoticed because he wouldn’t be here without Gemma’s sacrifice.”

“As an agent of a talent like Harry, we shared the same dream: he wanted to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world so to see one of my clients play for one, it’s the same dream.”

Mac explained that Amass had offers from two other unnamed Premier League clubs but he was only interested in joining United.

“Harry had two other choices in the Premier League, two big clubs, and now I know a lot more wish they had come to the table. But already at that time, Harry was clear he only wanted to join Manchester United.”

“Man United was clearly the best fit for Harry. The pathway was there along with the opportunity if he worked hard and stayed fit. The club fought hard to get him, they wanted to win the race at all costs, and they made it happen.”

On the player turning down loan offers in January, Mac answered, “Yes, it’s true. We rejected [this scenario] because we both sat down and agreed with the club that it would be better to stay and fight because opportunities could come. The club set out a realistic target and we agreed that we can evaluate all proposals in the summer, depending on what comes.”

On what the future holds for Amass as the summer transfer window nears, Mac remarked, “Let’s see what happens between now and the end of the season. I think we could be having a different conversation if Harry does what I know he can do. The club is very happy with Harry and I’m sure he has all the skills to be an important player for Manchester United’s future.”

GIVEMESPORT note that talks could be opened soon with Amass’ representatives over a new contract.
