The agent of Barcelona star Dani Olmo has spoken out on recent transfer rumours linking his client with a remarkable summer move to Manchester City.
The recently de-throned Premier League champions of the last four seasons are currently in the process of identifying a long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne, who will be leaving the club next month.
Manchester City officials held showdown talks with the 33-year-old to iron out their plans for the future, insisting that they would not be offering the playmaker new terms beyond the end of his existing deal, which expires at the end of June.
While it was originally planned for Florian Wirtz to join the club from Bayer Leverkusen as the ideal successor to arguably City’s greatest-ever player, officials from the Etihad withdrew their interest in the German this week due to concerns over the overall cost of a move.
That now leaves the likes of Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain to move on to alternative options, with one name emerging in Spanish media and reports elsewhere indicating admiration and interest from Manchester City.
Amid a long-standing belief in the player’s abilities, some reports have indicated that Barcelona and Spain international Dani Olmo could now become City’s ‘Plan-B’ option to explore in the coming weeks and months.
However, speaking exclusively to Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, the player’s agent Andy Bara has already shut down links between the Spanish attacking midfielder and supposed interest from Manchester City in the lead-up to the summer transfer window.
“We’re not talking to any other club,” Bara insisted.
“Dani is very happy in Barcelona at the moment, winning titles, and part of a great team,” he added.
“The rumours are not true. But of course, you never know what the future will bring.”
Many supporters will be clinging onto Bara’s closing sentence as a reason to believe that there could be opportunity for Manchester City to explore a deal for the European Championship winner with Spain.
Ongoing financial problems within the offices of the La Liga giants could also open up an opportunity at any given moment, as seen by Manchester City’s signing of Ilkay Gundogan during the final moments of the last summer transfer window.
For now, it remains to be seen just how much the Catalan club value one of their best players, particularly at a time when they will only want to be building upon their La Liga triumph over rivals Real Madrid this season for the new campaign.
