Following their return to the 1:1 status, there are now some changes expected to take place in the FC Barcelona squad in the winter transfer window.
Before this change, the Catalans were not expected to let most of their players leave, as the income obtained from their departures would not have been enough to get alternative options from the market.
However, even in that scenario, the Blaugranes were willing to allow one player to leave, i.e., Ansu Fati, who continues to struggle for game time at Barcelona after having returned from his loan stint in England last summer.
The last few months have made it quite evident that he will be unable to get his desired game time at the Catalan club, and, as SPORT has noted, there was another manifestation of this in the last game against Athletic Club, as the forward was not even named among the substitutes.
Along with the deregistered duo of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, and the injured players Marc-André ter Stegen, Marc Bernal, and Andreas Christensen, Fati was another player who was not named in the squad list for this game.
Meanwhile, the youngster Toni Fernández was named on the bench, which suggests that even he is above Fati in Flick’s pecking order now. Other players like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, and Pau Víctor were already clearly above him in the selection order.
This season, the Spaniard has played only 186 minutes in total, which are more than only Wojciech Szczęsny, who has played only two games up to now, Ronald Araújo and Christensen, who have been injured for most part of the season, and the youngsters Toni Fernandez and Andres Cuenca.
Thus, the only viable way forward for Fati remains a departure from Barcelona, and he can make a decision in this regard either in January or in the summer. For now, he has the options of Valencia, Girona, and Real Betis on the table, and it looks increasingly likely that he will end up leaving the Catalan club sooner or later.
