Southampton fans believe Gavin Bazunu shouldn't be Southampton's first-choice shot-stopper despite him gradually gaining rhythm in the Belgian league.
Face it bravely, or swallow it hard, but Southampton's biggest fear feels on the verge of erupting as the reality now. No, it's neither about the lowest total nor any transfer fear, but an outburst from the fans.
While the St. Mary's faithful have stood by the club's support throughout this dismal season, their patience is wearing thin. And now, they demand what they believe is best for the club.
Well, earlier, we had witnessed a little spark when the fans stood united in calling for Ivan Juric's dismissal. This time, the reaction isn't that intense, yet serious enough for the club's next season.
Alright, time to break the suspense, it’s against the swirling rumours surrounding Gavin Bazunu’s role next season.
Now, each and every Southampton fan would be concerned and aware of Aaron Ramsdale's summer departure links. And if the obvious happens, the Arsenal star is tipped to hand over the gloves to Bazunu.
Well, don't ask what's the problem here because this idea in itself is a big risk given Bazunu's past Southampton endeavours. Don't believe me? Listen to fan pundit Martin Sanders' response to this plan.
Speaking to Football League World, addressing whether Bazunu should succeed Ramsdale, Sanders said: "I'm not convinced that he will be the answer next season in the Championship. I will be interested to see what we do in regards to the goalkeeping department, and whether we have money to spend."
Now, that's quite a possible option for Southampton in the summer window. Having seen Bazunu's last Championship spell, it feels essential to seriously consider a possible signing in this department.
So maybe, the Saints could start the season with Bazunu, who’s finally showing signs of form, and reassess from there. Who knows, ultimately after 3 years of his signing, Bazunu proves us all wrong with his performances.
