In addition to La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, it is quite clear that FC Barcelona have the Copa del Rey trophy as another of their objectives for this season.

However, Hansi Flick was still able to rest one of his key players, Robert Lewandowski, for the quarter-final tie against Valencia last night. Needless to say, this decision proved to be quite beneficial for the Blaugranes who came out as 0-5 winners in this match.

In fact, it was none other than Ferran Torres, the player who replaced Lewandowski for this game, who proved to be the most differential player on the night.

He scored a first half-hour hat-trick, against his former club and the team of his life, Valencia. He did not celebrate the goals, to showcase his respect for his former club, but his affection did not keep him from putting the ball in the back of the net whenever he got the chance to do so.

As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the Valencian has proven to be quite a reliable backup for Robert Lewandowski, as his performances don’t allow Flick to miss the Pole whenever he replaces him on the pitch.

This was clearly the case last night, as his diagonal runs allowed him to get behind the hosts’ center-back pairing, which was suffering from a clear lack of coordination among them.

This, coupled with Valencia’s inability to block passes from the midfield and the wings, made it very easy for Hansi Flick’s men to stamp their authority on the match last night.

The hosts improved to some extent in the second half, which started with a 4-0 scoreline, while Barcelona also subbed off some of their regular starters to give some minutes to the substitutes.

But by that time, Ferran Torres had already shown his skills on the pitch, and that too against none other than his former club, Valencia.
