Ahead of each match we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the game.

Plenty to talk about after this one…

On this occasion it is ‘Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey…’:

POSITIVES

We went toe to toe with the champions

That was our best performance of the season.

The press was back, the passing was crisp and we defended well.

Man City have proven themselves over the past decade and more, as the best side in the country. That they’re defending 115 charges which question the basis upon which they’ve won that vast array of honours is something which we are yet to see the outcome of…

Newcastle United competed with a side that can bring talent like Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Savinho off the bench and in my opinion, NUFC were unlucky not to win.

Gordon is back

Wor Flags paid homage to our Scouse talisman and his reaction was fabulous to see.

The cloud that had been hanging over him since the PSR debacle lifted, he looked rejuvenated.

Leading the line because Isak and Wilson were unavailable, ‘Flash’ chased and harried and gave Ederson a torrid afternoon, sending him the wrong way from the penalty spot after the Brazilian had fouled him.

Lewis Hall MOTM

Young Lewis looks a class act.

What I saw of him at Chelsea before his £28 million move to St James last year, I liked, and I thought he was a tremendous acquisition.

For a long period last season, Eddie didn’t play him, and some of his performances this season have not been totally convincing, but today he absolutely nailed it and looked so comfortable.

NEGATIVES

We didn’t win

I thought we deserved all three points.

Longstaff had a great chance late on and had he showed more composure, we would have been ahead. At that point in the game, I’m convinced we would have hung on.

They’ll get football done away with

Man City are an awful club, with plastic fans. Their football stinks and they’ll get it done away with if they persist with such bland tactics.

Whilst I hope the Premier League will find them guilty of the charges they’re currently defending, I somehow doubt that will happen and their dominance will prevail.

That is not a healthy situation for the game we love.

Gordon up top

Isak is lightweight and Wilson is made of glass. Will Osula is clearly not ready so the madness of having to play Gordon up top unfolded on Saturday.

Whilst Anthony led the line well and scored the equaliser, I don’t think that’s his best position, but as things currently stand, it’s a fair bet he’ll have to play there again and again.
