4x PL winner was ready to join Man Utd on loan after Ashworth & Berrada vouched for him – report

Raheem Sterling was initially preparing to move to Manchester United on loan in August before it fell through, according to the Daily Mail.
The English attacker was out of favour at Chelsea and is currently on loan at Arsenal, but he was ready to join the Red Devils in a temporary deal as a move to the North London club was not on the cards in the first place.
Former Man United sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada all vouched for Sterling and spoke highly of him, but PSR rules stopped the deal from happening.
The Old Trafford club came close to breaking the PSR rules last summer, and not signing Sterling appears to be a blessing in disguise.
Man United were hoping the four-time Premier League winner would provide a big brother figure for the struggling Marcus Rashford, and while things could have been different for him had he moved to the club instead of Arsenal, his current struggles with the Gunners suggest otherwise.
The former Manchester City star has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far this term, weighing in with just a goal and two assists.
Sterling ended last season with ten goals and eight assists in 43 games at Chelsea, and Man United were willing to recruit his services on a season-long loan, but he could have struggled to impress at the club as he is currently doing at Arsenal.
The Red Devils have been slammed for their poor recruitment, and signing the 30-year-old would have likely not ended well for them.
It is safe to say Man United dodged a bullet given that they would have been required to pay part of his £325,000 weekly wages, and co-owner Jim Ratcliffe will be happy the move did not go through.
