Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho is facing an uncertain future ahead of this summer, with Atletico Madrid reportedly keen to re-sign him.

The Argentina international spent five years in Atletico’s academy before moving to Old Trafford in 2020 and quite quickly working his way up into the Man Utd first-team.

Despite showing flashes of real quality during his time with the Red Devils, he’s also been quite inconsistent and occasionally displayed signs of a poor mentality.

This has previously led to the Guardian reporting that Garnacho could be available for around £70m this summer.

And now Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes claim Atletico Madrid are keen to sign the 20-year-old this summer as they look to strengthen in response to their Champions League exit.

Alejandro Garnacho transfer saga doesn’t look straightforward for Manchester United

One imagines there’ll be plenty of United fans, and indeed some key figures inside the club, with very mixed feelings about how to approach the Garnacho situation.

It could be a big risk for MUFC to let this talented young player go without giving him more of a chance, but there are other factors to consider as well.

United aren’t in the best financial situation, so this summer could be a good time to make sales if some of their less important players attract interest from elsewhere.

Garnacho’s profile means he could be someone who’ll attract some big-name suitors, and it might be better for United to risk letting him go.

Even if Garnacho ends up shining at a major rival, this is the kind of difficult decision clubs have to take sometimes.

As things stand, Garnacho isn’t really delivering what’s required for Ruben Amorim’s project, so perhaps he could be replaced with someone more well suited to this playing style.
