£70m star set to make DECISION on Liverpool transfer | OneFootball

Liverpool have had an excellent start to the season, winning five of their opening six games, and this has been helped massively by the team’s defensive record.

The Reds have only conceded two goals in six matches and have dominated the majority of their matches so far this campaign.

A 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday saw Liverpool claim their fourth clean sheet of the season.

Arne Slot’s preferred centre back pairing this season has been Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, who both got on the score sheet against AC Milan. Van Dijk also completed 100% of his passes against Bournemouth and Konate registered his first assist of the season.

Liverpool are still interested in Guehi

Despite the defenders’ immense start to the season, Liverpool are still reportedly monitoring long-term target Marc Guehi.

According to Mark Brus, writing for Caught Offside, Guehi is set to make a decision on his future soon and remains open to a departure from Selhurst Park in 2025.

Both Liverpool and Newcastle were interested in the England Euros star, but he remained at Crystal Place this summer.

Crystal Palace were demanding £70 million for the 24-year-old this summer but that fee could be reduced next summer as the defender will only have a year remaining on his contract.

Do Liverpool need Guehi?

Although Liverpool’s defence has been impressive this season, and there is a clear first-choice centre back partnership, there is uncertainty over the future of skipper Van Dijk.

The 33-year-old has less than a year left on his contract and, as things stand, will be leaving Anfield for free at the end of the season.

Although negotiations are reportedly set to begin soon and Van Dijk may well extend his stay in Merseyside, a departure from the Dutchman would open the door for Guehi at Liverpool.

Van Dijk’s exit would leave a huge hole in the Reds’ defence and Guehi could be the man to sure up Liverpool’s backline in the summer of 2025.
