Former Birmingham City shot-stopper Tomasz Kuszczak has praised the work the Birmingham City owners have done so far since taking charge.
Former Birmingham City goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has lauded the new owners’ work since taking over at the club, claiming “lots of optimism” is developing at St Andrew’s and that they have "a big chance" of winning promotion this term.
As Blues blew every League One club out of the water with their spending over the summer, there have been such high expectations about an instant return to the Championship, and the West Midlands side are delivering at the moment by sitting two points clear at the summit, with two games in hand over the chasing Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham.
Birmingham arguably have the depth and quality in their squad to compete well in the Championship after their summer business, so promotion should be achieveable if they can remain level-headed and follow the plan that has worked so far under Chris Davies.
Creating such a strong squad of players has been down to the investment of controlling shareholder Tom Wagner, who has already put a lot of funds into the club to get them back into the Championship and then eyeing up an eventual move back to the Premier League.
With successful strides being made in the third tier, former Blues goalkeeper Kuszczak, who played 92 games for the club, has delivered his thoughts on the owners’ impact so far and why the future looks so bright.
Speaking to Football League World via 888sport.com, Tomasz Kuszczak believes the takeover came at the time when Birmingham City needed it most, and eyes up immediate success in the Championship if they can leapfrog out of League One.
Kuszczak said: “Yes, I enjoyed my time at Birmingham City a lot. A passionate crowd, a real good understanding of football and lots of excitement with the new ownership.
“The club really needed some good investment and ownership who were ambitious, and these new owners are definitely that. It’s great to see them doing so well, investing in good players and this is showing the rewards.
“They have a big chance for promotion and then you look at other teams who have won League One, they have had a good season the following year, so lots of optimism for sure.”
It has been clear from the get-go that Birmingham will succeed under the current ownership.
While not all decisions have gone according to plan, with the managerial change of Wayne Rooney a key factor for their current drop to League One, the owners do have the best interests of Birmingham at heart and will undoubtedly get more big decisions right than wrong in the near future.
A return to the Championship next season will see another wave of investment arrive to bolster the squad even further and help them achieve a back-to-back promotion ambition into the top flight.
