A day in the life

Well, I’ve finally done something I’ve always wanted to, and that was to enjoy a full 24 hour day as a proud Newcastle United fan of a trophy winning team.

I was too young to remember anything about our 1969 Inter City Fairs Cup win, though I still have an old polaroid of me decked out in black and white garb somewhere.

I chose the headline for this article not as a dig at Liverpool FC, more in reference to their four most famous sons.

To beat the best team in the land and win our first domestic competition in 70 years is something very special.

My plan was to party with friends in the Fat Ox in Whitley Bay from 10am on Monday.

On arriving at the Ox I was met by the manageress Karen, who said she was running behind schedule and wouldn’t be able to pull a pint until 11am.

Alongside a couple of other early birds, I duly popped along to the Three Brass Monkeys. My phone soon started ringing with lads stranded outside the Ox, who then came and joined our gathering throng.

After a few rounds we finally got to the Ox and the jovial cràic was in full swing. Nothing overboard, just all round happiness and a feeling of relief and accomplishment.

Joining me on our table was John Myers, Kevin Barrass, Stevie Acka, Stevie Coats and a lovely couple from Tynemouth, Andrew and Patricia. All smashing people and the perfect company for a notable celebration.

My mate Auld Ellas was resting up in the house after a tumultuous Sunday.

The beer, wine and spirits freely flowed and the hours sped past.

I ended up back in the Monkeys for a few drams before heading hyem on the bus.

After a bite to eat I watched re-runs of the Wembley action.

I must admit that Eddie Howe’s pitchside interview for Sky, alongside Sir Les, Shay Given and Jamie Carragher, especially moved me.

I am literally overjoyed for Big Dan Burn. This giant of a man with the big heart to go with it, will now go on to become a Geordie legend.

After a nice bath, I finally got to crack that bottle of single malt that I’d been saving for the occasion.

We are all in a very good place.

Newcastle United are on an upward trajectory and the monkey is now well and truly off our backs.

There is now nothing to keep us from getting stronger and better, not even PSR.

I was hoping to include a few pictures from the Fat Ox, which is a United themed bar. The thing was though, the patter was that good that I forgot to get my phone out.
