Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the details around Manchester City’s breakthrough in talks with AC Milan over a move for Kyle Walker this month.

The 34-year-old had indicated a clear desire to explore options abroad this month to bring in a new experience during the final years of his professional playing career, and amid performance struggles at Manchester City.

Saudi Arabian dealmakers have long been linked with admiration for the Manchester City veteran’s services, while the player himself has not hidden his desire to finish his career with boyhood club Sheffield United.

While the door undoubtedly remains open to the latter, as confirmed by manager Chris Wilder during a recent press conference, Walker has felt as though his career can remain at the very top of European football for the time being.

And that seems to have led him to the Italian game, where AC Milan have shown the most interest in the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender and are now on the verge of welcoming one of the Premier League’s greatest-ever full-backs to the San Siro.

That is according to the information of the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that Serie A giants AC Milan have now agreed a deal to sign Kyle Walker on loan from Manchester City until the end of the ongoing season.

It is explained that the loan move includes a buy-option clause within the agreement that is not mandatory for the Italian side, who will be covering the England international’s salary with a contract now agreed and a medical being planned.

As for the terms of the future contract, it is detailed that Walker would sign on until June 2027, if AC Milan decided to activate their option to buy the full-back at the end of his short-term loan deal in the summer.

Additional reporting from Italian newspaper Calciomercato, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, claims that AC Milan would pay Manchester City a transfer fee in the region of €5 million if they decided to secure the services of the defender beyond this season.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will hold any interest in securing an immediate replacement for Walker in the remaining days of the January transfer window, although the club have already secured two defensive recruits this month.

While Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis have joined from RC Lens and Palmeiras respectively, there is understood to be interest from the Etihad Stadium in Juventus’ versatile full-back Andrea Cambiaso.

However, sources within Manchester City have already indicated that they do not believe it is possible to do a deal for the player in the January market, and as such the profile of the Italian defender could be one to look into next summer.
