AC Milan Women had an afternoon to forget at the PUMA House of Football as Inter took the final derby of the season 4-1.
In the last round, Milan had their positive streak snapped with a 2-0 defeat away against Juventus. Cristiana Girella got both goals for the Bianconere, who are now strolling towards being crowned the champions, so that result is no disgrace for Suzanne Bakker’s side.
Hopes were higher going into the derby, especially after three draws in the previous meetings, but the Rossonere never really got going and Inter emerged comfortable winners to mathematically secure second place.
Milinkovic opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a tap-in inside the area after a great save by Fedele. The Rossonere equalised with Dompig in the 27th minute, converting a penalty awarded for a handball by Merlo.
In the 59th minute Polli skipped past two opponents and beat Fedele with her left-footed shot to restore the advantage for the Nerazzurre. Bakker’s side nearly draw level 10 minutes later but a great save by Runarsdottir denied Cesarini.
They conceded the third and fourth goals from Wullaert in the 85th and 91st minute, with Inter making the most of the counter-attacking chances. Also worth noting in the final minutes was the return to the field of captain Christy Grimshaw after a long injury.
