The Burnley chairman had this to say after their 4-0 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday last night.
Burnley FC chairman Alan Pace has delivered a call to arms for the club’s supporters after the Clarets closed the gap between themselves and the Championship’s top two on Friday night.
A ruthless second-half display saw Scott Parker’s side demolish Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 at Turf Moor, with goals coming from Marcus Edwards, Josh Brownhill, Connor Roberts and Manuel Benson.
That victory has closed the gap between Burnley and Sheffield United to just two points, with the deficit between them and table-topping Leeds United also now just four points.
With the top two meeting at Bramall Lane on Monday night, Parker and his men will have a keen eye on how that clash plays out.
With the Lancashire outfit playing the first game of the weekend, it was extremely important that they landed the first blow for the week, especially given that at least one of Leeds and Sheffield United are guaranteed to drop points on Monday night.
Clinical finishing after the half-time break saw Burnley pull away from their visitors, who could have represented a tricky test before kick-off.
After the game, the Clarets’ American chairman Alan Pace, took to Instagram to deliver the following message to the club’s supporters: “It was definitely a game of two halves! So proud of the team and loved the noise you all brought. Let’s keep moving forward and supporting the team. Enjoy your weekend, Clarets!”
It could prove to be a crucial victory for Burnley as, depending on the result of Monday night’s promotion ‘six pointer’ Parker’s side could find themselves within one game of the automatic spots.
Although they have become renowned for their defensive solidity this season, Parker’s men showed another side to their game with the win over Wednesday.
It was just the second time since the end of August that Burnley have netted more than twice in a single league game. The win has also extended their unbeaten run to an impressive 21 games, with their last defeat coming way back at the start of November.
Incredibly, Friday night’s clean sheet was also their 25th of the season and their 12th in a row in the league. They are now just two games away from matching the all-time English record for the most consecutive games without conceding, set by Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 2008/09.
The Clarets’ opportunity to pile pressure on the top two looks like it could continue over the next few weeks, with them facing strugglers Cardiff, Luton and Swansea within their next four league games.
The Championship’s top three have all been relentless this season and, while it may ultimately not prove to be enough for Burnley to secure their Premier League return, all they can do is keep on winning games, in the hope of Leeds or the Blades slipping up.
