According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid defender Eder Militao is making significant strides in his recovery, with signs suggesting he could return sooner than initially expected.

The Brazilian centre-back has been sidelined since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a La Liga clash against Osasuna on November 9.

This was a particularly cruel setback for Militao, who had already suffered the same devastating injury to his left knee in August 2023.

Time of recovery

ACL injuries typically require a recovery period ranging from seven to nine months. However, while being medically cleared is one step, regaining full match fitness and sharpness is another challenge altogether.

Some of the more optimistic projections hinted that Militao could make his comeback in time for the Club World Cup, but Real Madrid have remained cautious, prioritising a careful and thorough rehabilitation process.

Nevertheless, four months after his surgery, there is growing optimism within the club that the Brazilian could be available for the decisive stages of La Liga. His progress will ultimately dictate the timeline of his return.

New step for Militao

This Tuesday marked another encouraging milestone in his recovery. Militao was seen lacing up his boots, stepping onto the pitch, and engaging in ball exercises—an indication that his knee is regaining stability and strength.

This development is a crucial step forward as he continues working towards his ultimate goal: returning to competitive action at the highest level.

One of Militao’s greatest assets throughout this recovery process has been his mentality. Those close to him highlight his remarkable resilience, with the defender treating this setback as a challenge rather than a defeat.

Beyond the initial frustration of suffering another long-term injury, he has remained focused, determined to return stronger than ever.

His immediate focus remains on returning as soon as possible, potentially featuring in the latter stages of La Liga.

However, he also has an eye on the future, aiming to be at peak fitness for both the Club World Cup and, ultimately, the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
