Allegri emerges as contender for AC Milan managerial job | OneFootball

Ex-Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri has emerged as a top candidate for the managerial position at AC Milan (h/t La Gazzetta dello Sport).

Igli Tare, the front-runner for Milan’s sporting director role, has handpicked Allegri as his first choice to lead the project.

Tare will hold talks with Milan chief executive officer Giorgio Furlani over the sporting director position this week.

Former Tottenham Hotspur chief Fabio Paratici was also linked with Milan, but the talks collapsed due to legal issues.

Milan may hire a new manager in the summer following the underwhelming tenure of current boss Sergio Conceicao this season.

With Milan languishing in ninth place in Serie A, Conceicao is in a precarious position.

He could only save his job by leading Rossoneri to Champions League qualification and the Coppa Italia title.

Milan drew 1-1 with arch-rivals Inter Milan in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals. The teams will lock horns again on April 23.

Allegri has been without a job since he was sacked by Juventus during his second stint last year.

The 57-year-old managed Milan between 2010 and 2014, during which he won the Serie A title and Super Coppa Italiana.

Although the Bianconeri became an unstoppable force in Serie A during Allegri’s first stint, his second spell was forgettable.

Saudi Pro League clubs have also shown interest in the Italian manager over the last few months, but he has remained coy about his future.

Allegri’s experience and unparalleled achievements make him a viable option for Milan, but his failed second spell at Juventus might suggest his powers are waning.

Napoli manager Antonio Conte has also been linked with a move to Milan.
