Amad Diallo’s last-gasp winning strike against Manchester City has been nominated for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award.

City took the lead before the break after Josko Gvardiol headed in a deflected cross from Kevin de Bruyne.

It seemed like the reigning Premier League champions were headed for a victory but Amad had other ideas. In the dying embers of the match, Amad latched onto a loose backpass from Matheus Nunes, inviting the City defender to recklessly bring him down inside the box.

United were awarded a penalty kick and Bruno Fernandes made no mistake from the spot-kick to draw the Red Devils level.

Moments later, Amad was at it again, this time getting on the end of a fantastic ball from Lisandro Martinez before lifting it over Ederson and calmly slotting it into the back of the net.

The late strike – which is in contention for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award – saw United clinch all three points.

The victory remains United’s most recent, as the Red Devils have suffered defeats in four matches across all competitions since then.

Other players who are vying to win the award are Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Tariq Lamptey (Brighton), Enes Unal (Bournemouth), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Matheus Cunha (Wolves) and Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest).

United return to action on Sunday when they make their way to the home of bitter rivals Liverpool.

Ahead of the match, Amad – who has been one of the few positives for United in an extremely challenging season – issued a public apology to fans via social media.

In his post, the Ivorian thanked fans for their support as he labelled the year a “difficult” one.

Liverpool vs. United kicks off at 16:30 GMT.
