Manchester United are looking to offload Marcus Rashford in this transfer window.
The 27-year-old dropped a bombshell in an interview after manager Ruben Amorim axed him from the squad that faced Manchester City.
He made it clear he was ready for a ‘new challenge‘ elsewhere.
Man United legend Paul Scholes has now delivered a brutally honest opinion on the Rashford saga.
He said (via The Overlap): “I think Marcus has let a lot of people down with his attitude, and I think that’s what the manager is trying to say.
“You think of the young players coming through the team, think of (Alejandro) Garnacho – they’re looking up to people like Marcus now – he’s 27 years of age, and he’s clearly not training properly.
“Okay, he’s not refusing to play, but in the way he’s behaving and the way he’s training – in a way he is saying I don’t want to be involved with these.
“I think the fact of letting your teammates down in that dressing room – he should be banished from the dressing room.
“If he’s in and around that and young people are seeing that as an example, the sooner he’s gone, the better.”
With just six days left to secure a move, the England international is in a race against time.
His preferred destination is Barcelona, but their financial turmoil casts doubt on the deal.
AC Milan were linked with Rashford but have signed Kyle Walker, leaving no room for another British player.
Borussia Dortmund remain in the picture, although their recent managerial upheaval has left Rashford’s future in limbo.
The United academy product has been part of the training sessions even after being excluded from 11 of the last 12 matchday squads.
Scholes’ verdict is spot on. Rashford should be a role model for the younger players, but it appears maturity does not come with age.
Previously described as ‘unstoppable‘, Rashford has left Amorim unimpressed due to his poor work ethic.
Amorim warned the forward that he would rather have the goalkeeping coach in the squad over a player who isn’t fully committed to giving his all for the team.
This is a damning verdict on a player who was tipped to be a world-beater.
