Kai Havertz starred for Germany in their record-breaking win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday, adding a goal and assist to his personal tally.

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz made his first start of the November international break for Germany against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Saturday, and it was an impressive display from both the player and his team.

Germany raced into a 2-0 lead in the first quarter of the match, before Havertz provided his first direct contribution to make it 3-0.

The German carried the ball up to the edge of the penalty area before playing a pass in behind for Florian Wirtz. Wirtz played a clever reverse pass back into Havertz’s path, and the Arsenal man finished with his weaker right foot.

Though officially not credited as an assist, Havertz might claim one for his role in Germany’s fifth goal in the second half, as it was his deflected ball across the six-yard box that eventually found Wirtz for 5-0.

There was no doubt about the next goal though, with Leroy Sane latching onto a looping ball from Havertz and making it six.

Tim Kleindienst added a seventh before full time, making it the first time in Nations League history that a men’s team has scored seven goals in one game. The match finished 7-0, and the highlights are available here.

Havertz could have had another goal or two on another day, forcing four saves including one excellent stop from a goalbound header. It was a dominant performance from the 25-year-old and he certainly earned his two official goal contributions.

Germany will play away to Hungary in their final game of the group stage, with their position as group winner already secure – along with a spot in the Nations League quarter-finals next March.
