Arsenal youngster scores 6th in 8 games for England u19s

Arsenal trio Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Tommy Setford starred as the England u19s secured progression to the next round of Euros qualifiers on Saturday.

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Tommy Setford all made the starting lineup for the England u19s for their game against Bulgaria on Saturday, the second of three qualifiers to be played over the November international break.

With Belgium winning against Lithuania in the other game, a win would be enough to secure progression to the next round of qualifiers, but the game got off to a poor start as Adrian Raychev gave Bulgaria the lead.

Thankfully, the Arsenal boys were on hand to bring England level.

With 26 minutes on the clock, Lewis-Skelly turned and found a forward pass to Nwaneri, who lashed home a shot at the near post for 1-1. It was Nwaneri’s sixth goal in eight games at this level.

Before the half was up, England were ahead, and Lewis-Skelly was involved again as his shot was parried to Lewis Orford to finish for 2-1.

Lewis-Skelly was the captain on the day, and he certainly played his part in getting England ahead. But Setford also had a role to play in securing all three points, making a save to ensure Raychev didn’t score his second of the match.

The match finished 2-1, but not before all three Arsenal players found themselves picking up yellow cards.

England will progress to the next round of qualifiers, but they still have the matter of group winners to sort out before the November break is over. The u19s will face Belgium knowing a point will be enough to finish top.
