Paul Merson has given another 3-0 prediction against Southampton regardless of the multiple injuries Crystal Palace have been hit with.
Until very recently, it was Southampton fans fearing away matchday losses, humiliations and defeats. Lately, there's been a slight yet notable modification to this.
How is it now? The Saints fans fear pundit Paul Merson's predictions ahead of any Premier League game, the most. The ex-forward has made a habit of inflicting such painful forecasts on Saints fans.
Sometimes, it feels like Merson is making up for missing out on a Premier League medal when he left Arsenal in 1997, by taking it out on Southampton. The worst part? He's usually right.
Like it or not, as long as Southampton remain in the top flight, Merson’s bleak forecasts aren't going anywhere. So, here's the pundit with his matchday predictions for the upcoming Southampton Vs Crystal Palace game.
Writing about the one-sided contest in his Sportskeeda column, Merson mentioned: "Crystal Palace are flying at the moment. I can't see anything but them winning here. If Palace play like we know they can, they could wipe the floor with Saints."
In addition to this came Merson's customary 0-3 scoreline against Southampton's favour again.
Honestly, the Saints fans themselves won't disagree with this anticipation on most days. But currently, given Palace's midfield injury woes, isn't this too harsh on the Saints?
With the visitors' two key figures, Cheick Doucoure and Will Hughes set to miss this one, Southampton surely deserve, and expect, a less humiliating scoreline.
Still, that’s not too big of an issue for the Saints. Time and again, we have seen the club do at least a bit better in the actual matchday result, compared to Merson's claim.
Instead, what should concern them is how they can restore somewhat left pride by crossing over that 11-point Derby County record.
Make no mistake, Saints fans, this season isn’t over. The real battle starts now, with the club fighting to avoid both the lowest-ever points tally and Juric’s own embarrassing record.
