According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Estanis Pedrola, who first appeared for Barcelona’s senior team during the 2021-22 season, is on the verge of a significant move in Italy.

This development is expected to become official soon, possibly as early as today. Despite limited game time at Sampdoria in Serie B, Pedrola is now set to join Bologna, a club currently sitting 7th in Serie A.

The loan deal includes an option for Bologna to purchase the player at the end of the season.

What’s for Barcelona to gain?

Barcelona are keeping a close eye on this arrangement due to financial interests tied to Pedrola’s career trajectory. When the Catalan club initially transferred him to Sampdoria, they wisely retained 50% of the rights to any future sale.

This strategic decision could prove lucrative if the player performs well at Bologna. So far, Barcelona have already secured €3 million from Sampdoria, a sum contingent on Pedrola playing ten matches during his loan stint in the 2023-24 season.

The original loan agreement with Sampdoria in the summer of 2023 included a clause requiring the Italian club to pay €3 million if Pedrola participated in ten matches, which triggered Sampdoria’s full acquisition of the player.

However, Barcelona retained a buyback option valued at €7 million, which can be activated until 2025. Additionally, they safeguarded 50% of any future transfer fee.

The move to Bologna comes with a straightforward purchase option, meaning that if the Italian side decides to secure Pedrola permanently, Barcelona stand to benefit financially.

The club’s decision to maintain a buyback clause and a significant share of any future sale underscores their belief in Pedrola’s potential and their intention to remain involved in his development.

If Pedrola thrives at Bologna, it could open up multiple possibilities for all parties involved.
